Over 23 years, we improved our pouches, consistently earning 4.5-5 stars. In 2023, we completely redesigned our pouches. Celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2024, we're launching new, stiffer, stronger pouches with redesigned packaging. Apache makes a variety of laminating pouch products. These vary by: Size, from business card size 2.25x3.75” to art size 24x36”Thickness, from 1.5 mil to 14 milPack Count, from 5 to 1000 What is a Mil or MICRON? In the United States, laminating pouches are measured in mils, where 1 mil equals 1/1000th of an inch. For context, a human hair is approximately 2 mils thick. Internationally, laminating pouches are measured in microns, with 1 micron equal to 1/1000th of a millimeter. To convert, 1 mil is equivalent to 25.4 microns. Thus, a 3 mil pouch corresponds to roughly 75 microns. In some countries, the total thickness is advertised, so a 75-micron pouch is marketed as 150 microns. To visualize, 150 microns is 0.15 mm. EVA Adhesive The inner layer of each laminating sheet is composed of EVA plastic, which melts in the lamination and adheres to your project. EVA starts to melt around 190°F and becomes increasingly adhesive up to approximately 290°F. Beyond this temperature, the EVA will liquefy, potentially resulting in excess adhesive extrusion. Borders and Pouch Sizes Thermal laminating pouches are designed to be slightly larger than the project to create a protective border. For a US Letter size paper (8.5x11 inches), the corresponding pouch is 9x11.5 inches, resulting in a ¼ inch border. Smaller sizes, like business cards (2x3.5 inches), have pouches that are 2.25x3.75 inches, providing a 1/8 inch border.
