Hydrocolloid dressings are suitable for light to moderate exudating superficial wounds and are not recommended for dry skin, scabbed wounds, fully healed scars. Why does the dressing turn white, soften, or look puffy? This is normal and shows the dressing is working. When absorbing exudate, the hydrocolloid forms a translucent gel that may turn white, soften, or slightly swell. What if it hurts when removing the dressing? Use only on wounds with light exudate, not dry or healed skin. To remove, lift a corner and gently stretch the dressing flat. If needed, soften edges with petroleum jelly or saline for easier removal.
