Ideal for most new flute players, this cedar flute is tuned to the key of G and features a pentatonic minor scale, though it can play many other scales as well. Handmade from unstained western red cedar and come in a wide range of warm gold and brown colors. The color of the wood may vary from the photos. All of our Basic flutes are made from the highest quality western red cedar. This is a softwood, which means that it is light in weight which gives the instrument a resonance (subtle vibration) that you can feel in your hands as you play. It is a highly sought after wood for flutes for this reason. Western red cedar naturally ranges in color from a warm light golden hue to a rich red brown and everything in between. Note that our Iron Stained cedar flutes with bags are made in the same wood, but have had a natural dark stain applied to turn the color of the wood black. Our flutes sound the same regardless of color! Flute Size -Choosing The Right Key Though our beginner line of flutes are all aimed at new flute players, they vary in size. You are viewing the key of G, which is the middle flute in the picture above. If you have smaller hands, consider looking at our key of A flute (to the left) and if you want something that challenges your skill a little more, choose an F# (to the right). The size of the flute determines the sound or "key" . As you might suspect, the key of G is right in the middle voice wise as well.
