Step 2. Remove access panel and fold back the insulation. Step 3. Remove the personal protector cover over the thermostat. Step 4. Check the circuit diagram and remove the old thermostat or heating pipe. Step 5. Put the new thermostat into the bracket or replace it with a new heating pipe to ensure that it is firmly installed on the oil tank. Step 6. Attach the wire to the new thermostat and cover the thermostat cover. Step 7. Carefully fold insulation back to cover the thermostat and replace access panel. Step 8. Turn on electric power to the water heater.
