Product description The new viennese original Designed by a team of former AKG personnel, the Austrian Audio OC818 Studio Set is a large-diaphragm studio condenser microphone offering detailed audio capture and immense sonic customization for producers and engineers in personal and commercial recording facilities. The handmade 1" ceramic capsule features two gold-plated polymer membranes to enable multiple polar patterns. Utilize the 5-position switch to set the OC818 to figure-8, hypercardioid, cardioid, omnidirectional, or wide cardioid. Each diaphragm is routed to a separate output connector for dual-channel recording, which allows you to design custom polar pattern responses across five frequency bands via the open-source PolarDesigner plug-in or achieve a tweakable stereo image thanks to the StereoCreator plug-in (also open-source). Outstanding results on any source The heart of any classic mic is a superior handmade capsule, and this wisdom is borne out in the Austrian Audio's proprietary CKR12 capsule. In keeping with its multi-pattern design specification, the OC818 uses the dual-diaphragm version of the CKR12 capsule, which, in concert with the microphone's custom electronic circuitry, delivers excellent results when used for vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, drum overheads, strings, brass, percussion, and room capture. What's more, the OC818's robust native 148dB maximum SPL capability — further increased by the inclusion of selectable 10dB and 20dB pads — also makes it ideal for louder sources such as tom toms and electric guitar cabinets. Polar Designer plug-in - create your own polar pattern In addition to the selectable on-board polar patterns, the OC818 can utilise virtually any style of polar pattern. Polar Designer is a specialised plug-in designed by Austrian Audio to give you unprecedented control over your polar patterns. It spans between 1 and 5 bands, providing you with selectable crossover points during the mix process. You can use this before or in post-production to edit the sound of your microphone. You can even create our own unique polar pattern using the intuitive application. The in-depth equalisation control allows you to imprint the tonality of free-field or diffuse-field responses. Additionally, the Terminator AI helps to eliminate or push selected frequencies and instruments to the front of your mix. Dual outputs - record duets, ensembles and immersive stereo tracks Dual outputs for optimal versatility. The Austrian Audio OC818 features dual outputs for recording each diaphragm separately. The dual outputs serve to provide flexibility when it comes to recording, delivering immersive sound. Dual outputs for perfect for expanding your polar pattern selection. You can also use it capture duets and ensemble recordings with maximum detail. When both capsules are recorded, you can capture a stereo or dual-mono track. You can also use the free, open-source Polar Designer Plug-in for high-end control and tailoring of your polar patterns. Dual mode and PolarDesigner The second output on the back of the OC818 delivers the signal from the rear capsule membrane, while the front membrane is output via the normal XLR plug. Simply plug in the OCC8 mini XLR cable supplied with your OC818 and set the polar pattern switch to the cardioid setting (the center position with the dual-cardioid icon). The OC818 will now work in Dual mode, with both capsule diaphragms being routed independently.
