Product description Internal Snap Rings or Circlips External Snap Rings Internal Snap Rings or Cir-clips are placed into slots cut into bores of housings to retain a shaft or assembly part in that housing. This could be the end of a shaft or a solenoid. With a shaft, the Snap Rings or Cir-clip is used to prevent the shaft from walking out of the housing and with a solenoid, that solenoid will actually push against the ring. They fit into grooves cut into the housing for a snug fit and often there will be an O-Ring or seal to the inside or outside of that ring. All of our Internal Snap Rings or Cir-clips are made of spring steel with Black Oxide Coating. All of our External Snap Rings are imported from Chinese Manufacturers and then conveniently packaged for little waste. To determine the External Snap Ring you need, measure the bore diameter and then order the same size snap ring. Internal Snap Rings are sized to the bore and not to the the groove cut inside in the bore. An Internal Snap Ring fits right when it snaps into the groove cut inside the housing and then floats freely or moves with just a little friction and is not distorted with the ends not overlapping. It should be impossible to pull the replacement Internal Snap Ring out of its bore without the use of Snap Ring Pliers or by prying underneath and pulling out the end with a sharp object. You will likely need a Snap Ring Tool to install a snap ring but you can often work a replacement snap ring into it's bore by first sitting one end inside the bore and then compressing the ring around and in until it's sitting inside the bore. Then you can walk the snap ring deeper into the bore until it snaps into its slot with a small screwdriver. Internal Snap Rings are used to prevent a shaft from walking out or being pushed and to retain a part like a solenoid. They are inserted into grooves cut inside a bore of a housing to create a shoulder that retains the assembly.
