Unlike planters with a painted finish, ours will never lose its pattern. Use both indoors and outside. Frequently Asked Questions Is this a self-watering hanging planter? Yes! Our Napa Hanging Bowls have a built-in self-watering system called the Water-Minder. This removable insert creates a sub-irrigated reservoir at the bottom of the planter that allows water to seep through the screen. Your plants then absorb the water as needed. How does this hanging basket prevent overwatering and underwatering? The self-watering feature prevents overwatering and underwatering as long as the drainage plug on the bottom of the planter is removed. This is because the water level will always drop to the top of the overflow drain. Your plant will then absorb the water as needed. If you're worried about underwatering and/or if it's hard to tell if the plant is dry, then we recommend watering frequently to avoid any chance of underwatering. That ensures there is always water available in the reservoir. Just make sure the drainage plug is removed so that the water does not overfill the reservoir, potentially causing watering-logging and root rot. What if I'm using this hanging pot indoors? If you're hanging our planter indoors, do not remove the drainage plug. Also, keep in mind this will negate the self-watering feature, so you will need to be mindful to not overwater. That is because with the drainage plug left in, any excess water will no longer automatically drop to the top of the overflow drain. If desired, you can also use this planter without the rope as a tabletop bowl planter. Doing so would allow you to remove the drain plug so the self-watering feature still functions. You would just need to place a saucer or tray underneath the bowl to catch any excess water. Does this planter have a drainage hole? Yes! There is a removable, rubber stopper on the bottom of the planter. This allows the water level to drop to the top of the overflow drain. When using the planter outdoors, remove the drainage plug to prevent water-logging and root rot. Do not remove the plug when using indoors unless you decide to use this as a tabletop/standing planter with a tray underneath. How do I attach the included rope hanger? Simply slide the three ends of the rope and steel fasteners through the three holes around the edge of the planter from the outside. Be sure to bend the rope where it joins the fastener into a "T" shape so it can't slip back through the hole.
