A futon mattress takes more wear than almost anything else in the room. It gets sat on all day, slept on at night, and it cannot go in the wash. Most covers sold for it are stretch slipcovers: elastic knit that pulls over the outside of the futon and has to be tugged back into place every time somebody gets up. This is a different thing. It is a full size futon mattress cover that zips shut around the mattress itself, 54 by 75 inches, made for armless futon frames with a mattress 6 to 8 inches deep. The hidden zipper runs behind a full length flap, so the cover closes on every side and stays where you put it. A worn, stained or faded futon goes inside it and stops being the thing you apologise for. It is woven 100% cotton, so it breathes rather than sitting slick against skin the way a spandex knit does, and it comes off and goes in the washing machine whenever it needs to. That matters most on a futon that doubles as a guest bed, where the surface someone slept on should be washable between visits. These futon covers come in nine colors, and in full size only: 54 x 75 inches, armless frames, a mattress 6 to 8 inches deep. Whether it is the futon in a spare room, a small futon in a studio apartment, or the jack knife sofa in an RV, measure the mattress depth before ordering, because a zippered cover either closes or it does not.
