No. The CM-224Pro measures coating thickness only on metal substrates such as steel, aluminum and galvanized panels. It cannot measure on plastic bumpers, fiberglass or composite parts commonly found on modern vehicles. Can it detect repainted panels? Yes. During vehicle inspection, compare thickness across doors, fenders and quarter panels. Significant differences may indicate repainting, filler or previous body repair, helping assess real vehicle condition before purchase. Does it automatically detect substrate type? Yes. The gauge automatically identifies steel (Fe), aluminum (NFe) and galvanized metal (Fe+Zn). This ensures accurate readings on mixed-material car bodies without manual switching during inspection. Is calibration required before inspecting a car? No. For normal automotive paint inspection, calibration is not required. The device is factory calibrated and ready to use after installing batteries. Zero or multi-point calibration is optional for special conditions or precision control. Is this gauge accurate enough for professional use? Yes. The CM-224Pro provides professional-grade measurement accuracy (±3% + 2µm) and is suitable for automotive inspection, body shop diagnostics and controlled coating verification where reliable thickness readings are required.
