Coating thickness reduces the maximum measurable base thickness, so thicker paint limits usable range. What is the difference between Echo-Echo and Pulse-Echo modes? Echo-Echo measures base metal through coating. Pulse-Echo is used for direct measurement on uncoated materials such as steel or cast iron. Selecting the correct mode ensures stable readings and proper signal interpretation. Can it measure cast iron and rough materials? Yes. In Pulse-Echo mode the gauge can measure cast iron and industrial components. Surface condition and proper couplant use affect stability, so cleaning the contact area improves measurement reliability. Does this model connect to a PC? No. Industrial-888 is a stand-alone device with internal storage for up to 500 records. It does not support USB connection, PC software or external data export, making it fully field-independent. How is calibration performed? Zero calibration is performed using the built-in 4 mm steel reference block. For higher accuracy, sound velocity can be calibrated using a sample of known thickness to match the specific material being tested.
